Silence.
Silenced.
My mom got home to Blacksburg a few minutes ago and therefore already knows everything the newspapers have reported, and then some.
It could have happened anywhere, I guess. The thing is, it didn't.
Addendum.

It feels so weird. At first it seemed so distant that it really didn't register. Then the names of buildings started to kick in, and they mentioned Norris Hall and I thought of my nephew--currently enrolled in the engineering program. Then I started to see the pictures--doors I've walked through, steps I've climbed, the familiar Hokie Stone--new and old. And it hits. My Virgina Tech; My Blacksburg. Never the same.
Well said. I've missed all of those visuals in an effort to keep young eyes and ears safe from all of this. But tonight when I was in the car I heard people say the words -- massacre, carnage -- and the impact was stunning.
